Kogi West poll: CDD tasks stakeholders on credible process

AS voters in the Kogi West Senatorial District and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency cast their votes on Saturday, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called for a credible process. The CDD, in a statement signed by its Director, Idayat Hassan, warned that given the violence, voter intimidation and brazen electoral fraud that characterised the November 16 polls in Kogi and Bayelsa states, the onus is now on all electoral stakeholders, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to redeem themselves. The Nigerian Correctional Service has commenced a probe into the alleged $1 million scam perpetrated by one Olusegun Aroke, aka Hope Aroke, who is serving a 24-year jail term in Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos. The convict, who was the subject of an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, reportedly pulled the heist using a network of accomplices. INEC adjourns final collation of Kogi results to Monday

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has announced the adjournment of collation of Kogi results to 9am on Monday. The results of only Ibaji and Lokoja local government areas are outstanding with Governor Yahaya Bello in clear lead in 11 local governments. His closest opponent Engr Musa Wada of the People Democratic Party(PDP), who has rejected the outcome of the exercise, is leading in eight local governments.

The Centre for Democracy and Development said political parties used fake news to delegitimise Independent National Electoral Commission and the electoral process during Kogi governorship election. Ms Idayat Hassan ,Director CDD ,made this known in the group’s preliminary statement on the conduct of Saturday’s Kogi governorship election. SDP’s Natasha Akpoti Cast Her Votes, Decries Violence In Kogi Elections

Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at the 2019 Kogi Governorship Election, Natasha Akpoti, has cast her vote in the polls, after which she accused incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello of sponsoring violence. Akpoti told reporters that she has the “tremendous support” of the Kogi people but is worried about the violence being sponsored by her opponent. “I have the tremendous support of not just people from Kogi Central, but also Kogi East and Kogi West,” she said. “And it is unfortunate that the government at hand, with due respect to the APC candidate, Yahyha Bello, has decided to take laws into his hands and sent thugs to attack.” Akpoti also noted that she was concerned about the level of training exhibited by the INEC officials at the ward where she voted.

Kogi: Two fake NSCDC men arrested PDP alledge

The Deputy Director, Public Communications of the Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party Campaign Council, Usman Austin, on Saturday, raised the alarm that two young men who dressed in the uniform of officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have been apprehended in Ayingba Dekina Local Government Area by the people. In an interview with our correspondent, he stated that the suspects were later handed over to the police. He also said that electoral materials in Odu 1 and 2 wards and Community High School in Ayingba, had been hijacked by thugs.
